Vanny

  • Sweet_face
Vanny was born in August of 2002 and came to us in October of that year. She is 1/2 Bassett and 1/2 Spitz (American Eskimo Dog). We were told she is "pure breed"--we figured she is pure bred Bassitz (which sounds better than Spasett!! She is very sweet, but timid. She sees and smells EVERTHING!! and is aware of every change around the house. She has more than filled a sad empty spot left by our Bo, who left us earlier in 2002.

The Garden

  • Leek_flower1
I find a great peace digging in warm dirt. And I get a feeling of accomplishment when I serve something grown in my garden. Flowers add whimsy to the productive vegatable plants. Fruits grow around the edges. The birds help me keep the insects down. But I find it hard to kick the bunnies out. Every year I find baby bunnies in the corn patch and my heart laughs. The bunnies eat the peas when they come up, so I have to plant a bunch of peas to get just a few in return. How dull my life would be with out my garden!

Nature in Action

Spider webs amaze me. They are so perfect. Look at the dew drop and you can see the background upside down. This is an example of the incredible mystery I see in Nature. I hope you enjoy my nature shots- most are from my yard.

Spinning yarn

  • Red_grey
I began spinning in 1998 after getting a dark fleece in exchange for helping with a sheep shearing-- my first.. The fleece, fro a sheep named George, was very course, but I learned a lot with it. I have a Lendrum Castle Wheel with the regular, jumbo, and high-speed flyers. I have thought of getting another wheel, one with a more traditional look and feel, but I cant justify the cost yet. There is nothing I have needed ( or wanted) to spin that I caould not. I love to dye and blend fibers- seeing what comes out of the carder is magical. Some of my yarn is well blended and smooth. Some is barely blended and lumpy/bumpy. I call myself a fluff-a-holic because I can not get enough of the feel or smell or sight of fibers and yarns...

Knitting projects

  • fleece lined green mittens
This baby bonnet is knitted in hand-spun merino provided by Teddy-one of My friend Lynn's sheep. It is being warn by the first bear I made. I took a Teddy Bear class and came home with this. He is classic Steiff design, made from German mohair fabric. Very traditional.. I have made a few other bears since then-- they will have to be models too some time.
