When I started this blog I planned to share interesting tales (yarns) with you. Sometimes the yarns would be about yarns and sometimes about other things. To my surprise this led to my getting a Jeopardy question right! Alex read off the answer and it went something like this: Category was , oh,maybe word meanings.. " This 5 letter word can be either a long story or a tightly twisted thread".... No hesitation on my part. Woo-Hoo!!
So, My yarn for today is a bird ghost story....
What the heck is this???
This little guy visited the feeding table yesterday evening. It looks like a Finch, except with white feathers and pale bill and legs.... OOOH... Casper the friendly finch???? A messenger with warnings??? Feedings past, present or future???
Anyone have any ideas???
I Googled "albino finch" and found that they are very rare. All the articles I could find were about albino House Finches, but this one looked to me to be more like a Gold Finch. It was very hard to get a picture, finches are skittish birds. I am going to keep an eye out today and see if I can spot him again... Stay tuned..
Baby Update---
I was in the garden Wednesday morning watering the bean seeds and decided to check on the baby Titmice. The fluttering sounds coming from the box could be heard at a distance..
I didn't think these little ones would be around much longer. Look at the beginnings of their crests. Five of them stuffed in a box! Well, Wednesday evening I check again, and sure enough, they were all gone. I do wish I could have been home for their great adventure. Maybe next time. The bird book says they have two clutches a year. I am going to clean out the box and wait.
Hear-Ye----
I have a tomato!!!
I know that to most of you this is no big deal, but here, in my zone 5+ garden, I am usually just planting the tomatoes on the first of June. This year I tried the wall-of-water system, and I do think it is a winner. This is a Black Prince- Can't wait for the BLT!!!!
The Garlics Are Scaping!!!
Hard-Neck Garlic puts out a "scape". It is actually a flower stem and if left alone the pointy top will bloom. If you want larger bulbs of garlic it is recommended to snap off the scapes. They are very nice in any dish where you would use garlic. I will snap mine today.... I am making corned beef in the crock pot- (inspired by Joanne) will probably put some in.
That's it for today--So, Until next time,
Knit Happy,
Lawre
